Riot In LAUTECH

Students of Ladoke Akintola University, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, have been forced to go on break following a riot that broke out between them and some indigenes of Ogbomoso last week.

There are conflicting claims as to the cause of the riot. While the students said it was because a group of commercial motorcyclists stabbed one of their colleagues to death at his YOACO hostel, the school authorities claimed that the students were protesting the increment in their school fees.

As a result of the riot, the school authorities, through the Acting Registrar, Niyi Fehintola, has declared an impromptu one-week mid-semester break. The students are expected to resume on 21 March 2011.
