The police at Adeniji-Adele Division, Lagos Island, Southwest Nigeria have arraigned two notorious land speculators operating on Lagos Island before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence.
The accused, Badmus Jamiu, 23 and Badmus Wasiu, 25, were arrested following a complaint lodged by Muktar Abdulahi, that he was defrauded of N265,000 by the accused on the pretence of selling half plot of land to him, which they later resold to another person but refused to refund his money.
The incident occurred on 10 January, 2010 at 18, Okesuna Street, Lagos Island.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime which is punishable under sections 419 (A), 390 and 437 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.
Count three of the charges reads: ”That you, Badmus Jamiu and Wasiu on the date, time and place at the aforementioned magisterial district did receive the sum of N265,000 from Muktar Abdulahi on the pretence of selling half plot of land situated at 18, Okesuna Street, Lagos Island, belonging to your father to him but conspired and resold the land to another person.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Y.J. Badejo Okusanya granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter till 4 April, 2011.
