Man Steals N1.5m Jewellery
The police at the Maroko Police Division, Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria have arrested Christopher Francis, 22, for allegedly breaking into the home of a complainant, Miabiye Koko, to steal jewellery valued at N1, 570,000.
The incident occurred at Plot 22B, Bola Ashafa Street, Water Corporation Road, Atlantic Beach, Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The police alleged that the suspect broke into the apartment of the complainant to steal the items after he had travelled.
The police alleged further that when the complainant returned, he found out that the door to his apartment was broken and his jewellery stolen.
He reported the theft to the police and the suspect was arrested following a tip off from neighbours.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of stealing, offences punishable under sections 516 and 390 (6) (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.F.O. Botoku granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties.
The magistrate also directed that the sureties must have property in Lagos and swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood. Their addresses, she added, must be verified by the court.
The defendant was remanded in prison custody when he could not perfect the conditions attached to the on time.
