Strike: Woman Dies After Childbirth At Isolo Hospital

A woman who was in labour, Mrs. Esther Peter, died this morning at the gate of Isolo General Hospital, Lagos, South West Nigeria. Nurses at the hospital had refused to admit or attend to her as nurses in Lagos hospitals commenced strike today.

P.M. NEWS gathered that Esther, who resided at 4, Sofolahan Street, Ijesatedo, Lagos, was first moved to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, as the family suspected there could be complications during her labour, but she was rejected because of doctors’ strike.

At Isolo, however, she delivered her baby at the gate unattended but she died moments later.

Her corpse and the baby, who is alive, were later removed from the hospital gate where all patients were locked out by the striking nurses.

Her corpse was conveyed in a hearse marked LAGOS OG 840 GGE, to an unknown destination.

Members of her family could not be contacted at press time.
