26 Movie Pirates Jailed

Twenty-six Persons have been sent to jail for pirating movies.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the accused were sentenced to six months imprisonment each, with an option of N50, 000 fine by special offences court (KAI UNIT) Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

Delivering judgment on 16 March the presiding  magistrate also gave an order to seal off three printing presses where the pirates were arrested. There are Alpha Print Ventures 46,Owodunni Street, Mushin, Abel Print, 1 Ikale Street, Mushin, and Alpha Meric Ventures, 31Shebanjo Street, Mushin.

The pirates were arrested on Tuesday, 15 March during a raid by top Idumota movie marketers led by its National Chairman Olufemi Odunuga. They smashed a syndicate that specialised in the printing of pirated film jacket.

The pirates were later detained at the Zone ‘D’ Police Command, Mushin, Lagos State.

Items recovered from them include labels, moviejackets and flyers.
