April Polls: INEC To Disqualify Candidates

Mr. Godfery Miri, the Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), says any candidate who induces voters with money during the April polls will be disqualified.

Miri stated this during a meeting with governorship candidates in the state on Thursday in Gombe.

He said the meeting was to ensure peace during the April polls and to make the candidates to sign an undertaking form for free and fair election.

Miri urged the candidates to enlighten their supporters on the need for peace and stability.

He said during the elections, INEC would only engage the NYSC corps members and students from federal tertiary institutions, to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise.

He further said that on the day of election, accreditation of voters would commence before the beginning of voting.

“Any person who comes after 12 noon will not be accredited and the security agents will stand at the end of every queue; therefore voters should come out early because by 1:00 p.m. voting will commence.

“It’s important to tell your supporters that we will cancel any polling unit where violence happens.

Eight governorship candidates who attended the meeting, signed an undertaking to ensure free and fair election in the state.
