A man, Tunde Adebayo escaped death by the whiskers in Lagos when a mob attacked him while trying to steal a motorcycle.
He was rescued by the police who took him to the station.
He reportedly posed as a policeman attached to Ikotun Division and arrested a commercial motorcyclist, Tunde Enitan, with his motorcycle with registration number AU 226 AGL.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the accused stopped the complainant and ordered him to get off his motorcycle but the owner refused.
After much pleading by other commercial motorcyclists, the fake policeman was asked to produce his identity card. When he could not, policemen at the Ikotun Station were contacted and he was arrested and taken to the station where he confessed that he was not a policeman.
He was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for stealing, an offence punishable under Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. B. Folami granted him bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety in like sum.
The matter has been adjourned till 11 April, 2011 while he was remanded in prison custody at Apapa, Lagos, pending his fulfilment of the conditions attached to the bail.
