NIMASA Engage Ijaw Youth To Fight Pirates

The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has enlisted the support of the Ijaw Progressive Union (IPU), in policing the waterways that run through Ese-Odo and Ilaje council areas of Ondo State to the coastline of Lagos in the South-West of the country.

This partnership was in line with NIMASA’s new strategy of partnering various youth organizations in the country to reduce the activities of pirates in the Niger Delta region and along the coastline.

The new operational strategy code named “Operation Dark Days for Pirates” was launched in Lagos by NIMASA as a way of sending warming signals to sea pirates that troubled the waterways.

President of IPU, Otegha Ayebi, who disclosed this to the media in Akure recently, said all pirates opening in the sea from Arogbo to Agadagba-Obon to Igbokoda, all the way to Lagos State should quit now “or else it will be operation dark days for such pirates”.
