A leading member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Chief Alamu Otegbeye has warned the Lagos State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the union, Alhaji Rafiu Olohunwa to desisit from any act of organising political rallies under the guise of getting such directive from the NURTW headquarters in Abuja.

Otegbeye gave the warning following the unethical conduct of some members who were mixing politics with unionism during a meeting organised on March 15, 2011 by the caretaker committee chairman, Alhaji Olohunwa.

Chief Otegbeye said the meeting was more of a political rally than a union meeting.

“Henceforth, nobody should attend such meetings again without a directive from the national leadership of the union led by our able president, Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin,” Otegbeye stated.

He implored NURTW members not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs during the coming general elections. He said as Nigerians, they have the right to vote for any candidate of their choice.

He also warned politicians to stop using members of the union for political thuggery during elections, saying it is against the rules of the union for members to engage in such act.
