Gov. Martin Elechi of Ebonyi says President Goodluck Jonathan will win next month’s presidential election in the first ballot.

Elechi spoke at a meeting with stakeholders at Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi where he hails from.

“ My optimism is not outlandish in spite of all the efforts being put into the electioneering campaign by other presidential hopefuls,” he said.

The governor said Jonathan was ahead of others in the campaign in view of his performance in office as well as his sincerity of purpose and detribalised disposition.

Elechi was apparently referring to the constitutional requirement that the winner of the presidential election must not only win majority of votes cast, but must also secure 25 per cent of votes in 24 states.

He said the election of Jonathan would mark a turning point in the nation’s political history as it would help eliminate suspicion and mistrust between the North and South.

Elechi said that he had increased water supply from 45 million litres per day to 65 million litres.

According to him, the government also embarked on construction of two new mega water schemes at Ukawu and Oferekpe to provide 100 million litres of water per day.

He said his administration was constructing 33 bridges tagged, Bridges of Unity, with 24 of them already completed.
