A salesgirl, Nancy Oyeniran has been arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of stealing by the police at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
The accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by her boss, Dr. Chidi Ene, who lives at House 409, Road 4, Divine Estate, Bogije, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
She was alleged to have stolen 569 bags of cement, valued at N1.38m and N300,000 she was given to buy more bags of cement. Instead of doing as she was instructed, she reportedly converted the money for her personal use. .
During interrogation, the police stated that the accused confessed to the crime and was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of stealing, offences punishable under Sections 516, 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N700,000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate also directed that the surety must be gainfully employed and adjourned the matter till 6 April, 2011.
