Lagos Debunks Media Report
The Lagos State government has debunked a media photo report that the state government abandoned the Oshodi-Apapa expressway.
In a statement signed by Akeem Bello, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Babatunde Fashola, he said: “The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to the front page photo story of the Vanguard of Wednesday, March 23, 2011, captioned Jonathan, Fashola Abandon Oshodi – Apapa Expressway.
“The Lagos State Government wishes to say that there is no truth in the said publication. Rather the truth is that the Oshodi – Apapa Expressway is a Federal Government road and aside from intervening directly to ameliorate the suffering of motorists on that road, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has written severally to the Federal Government to come and take responsibility by rehabilitating the road without getting any response on every occasion.â€
According to the statement, “the Lagos State Government wishes to also state that both the failed road and the indiscriminate parking by tanker drivers on the access routes to the nation’s sea port, as stated in the accompanying report to the pictures, remain constant reminders of the failure of the Federal Government to take responsibility over critical infrastructural issues as it concerns Lagos.
“While the Lagos State Government deeply sympathises with the people over the difficulties currently being experienced on that road, it will be greatly appreciated if the media correctly locates the source of the difficulties which is the failure of the Federal Government to live up to its responsibilities.â€
