The Police in Bauchi say they recently recovered explosives, ammunition and other weapons, including an AK 47, in Kofar Dumi area of the city during a raid.

The Police Public Relations Office(PPRO), ASP Mohammed Barau said this in Bauchi on Thursday when he spoke with newsmen.

He said the items were recovered after bandits attempted to release a wounded detainee suspected to be part of the robbers who stormed a commercial bank and a police station in Darazo, recently.

He said the suspects raided the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital on Monday and rescued their colleague from his sick bed after scaring away patients with guns.

According to him, the police later traced them to a house.

“When the suspects forcefully unchained their colleague, who was receiving treatment at the hospital and took him a way, unknown to them, we were trailing them.

“We traced them to a house in Kofar Dumi area and surrounded it after which we pounced on them and made the recovery and arrested eight persons,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police have said that they are ready to face the security challenges of the forthcoming general elections in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Indabawa told newsmen that “the police are ready for challenges at the polls.

“We are calling on politicians to desist from engaging youths to harass and intimidate people during their campaigns or election time”.
