Political War In Taraba

A full scale political war has erupted in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria.

The war started at about 7.30 this morning when the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, stalwarts with armed thugs numbering over 500 clashed with ACN supporters at the home of the senatorial candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Takum, Mr. Sunday Dankaru.

They allegedly attacked ACN supporters as well as the governorship candidate for the party Senator Joel Danlami Ikenya who was in the house with his teeming supporters who were preparing for a rally scheduled for today in Takum.

The PDP thugs reportedly shot sporadically in Takum town for over one hour.

The shooting had sent the people of Takum running for their dear lives while some were seen packing their belongings and relocating to nearby local government areas.

As at press time armed soldiers from the 93 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Takum have taken over the streets of Takum trying to maintain peace and order.

P.M.NEWS gathered that there is total insecurity in Takum town which may lead to the suspension of the ACN rally by its governorship candidate, Seantor Ikenya.

It was not yet certain at press time the number of casualties involved in the fracas. All efforts to get the new Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Takum to comment on the level of damage and casualty proved abortive as he was said to have joined the patrol team in order to prevent the crisis from escalating.
