LASG Lauded On Quality Education

The Education Secretary of Alimosho Local Government Education Authority in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, Mr. Isaac Omorege, has commended the state governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola for improving and adding quality to the standard of education in the state.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS recently, Omorege said the standard of education in the past three years has improved in Lagos State, adding that he was pleased with the training and retraining of both academic and non-academic staff of the job.

“The provision of learning and teaching aids, both in the primary and secondary schools, has lifted the learning ability to an appreciable level,” he observed.

He also thanked multinationals and other organisations that have in one way or another complemented the efforts of the state government in meeting the standard set by UNICEF, by providing materials and buildings towards improving education in the state.

Speaking on the mass failure recorded recently in both the WAEC and NECO examinations, the education expert said the advent of certain individuals who created their own centres where all manner of examination malpractices are perfected facilitated the breeding of half-baked scholars who brandish very impressive result, though they never really studied for the exams.

“With the employment of more teachers and the upgrading of teaching infrastructure, I am optimistic that in no distant future, the results will not be as bad as it is presently,” he said.

He called on the state government to redouble its efforts at reducing the high rate of unemployment by absorbing more trained teachers. He also urged parents to take another look at public schools, as they have been turned around and can now compete favourably with private schools.

On the forthcoming elections, Omorege called on Lagosians to come out en masse and vote for the candidates of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. He also urged Nigerians to defend their votes.
