The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) is to embark on some capital projects that will gulp N433million in its 26 co-ordinating offices across the country.

Its Executive Secretary, Captain Adamu Biu, who made this known before the Senate Committee on Marine Transport in Abuja during a budget defence, explained that the council would review the salaries of its workers, adding that the council would spend N69 million on its Kano office.

Besides, he said some vehicles would be purchased and that the NSC would recruit some staff this year, adding that the estimated revenue was N3.595 billion. According to him, the  recurrent revenue was N1.3billion while overhead cost was N1.8 billion.

He said that the major projects this year were the inland container depots (ICDs) which will soon be commissioned. Biu regretted that the council was unable to implement some capital projects last year due to late approval of budget.

“The one per cent freight charge,” according to him, “will improve the major projects of the council this year.”
