Governorship candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP) in Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria, Ogbeni Lanre Banjo has commended the Police for rescuing him and members of his campaign team during a recent attack by hoodlums at Ijebu-Ode Roundabout.

In a statement by his media assistant, Temitope Ogunbanke, the NCP governorship candidate said the effort of the Police was commendable.

He also expressed appreciation to the Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel for coming to his rescue by phoning the Commissioner of Police to provide protection for him and his team.

“I commend the effort of the Nigeria Police for saving our lives and recovering some of our stolen properties after our campaign train was attacked by some hoodlums in Ijebu-Ode. I commend the Police because they performed beyond our expectations. I am grateful to Governor Gbenga Daniel who phoned the Police Commissioner and I also thanked the Police for their quick response,” he stated.

The NCP governorship candidate promised to fight corruption and ensure that people holding public office are accountable to the masses. He also stressed the need for reduction of money in politics, which he said, has destroyed the political system.

“Public office should be an avenue to serve the people and not to enrich one’s pocket. If I become the governor of Ogun State, I am going to fight corruption to a standstill and ensure that public office holders are not stealing or diverting public funds to themselves. I will ensure that diversion of constituency allowance by lawmakers does not happen during my tenure by making sure that monies are used for what they are allocated for.

“As a governor, security of lives and property will be one of my major concerns, and to ensure this, I will institute state police independent of the Nigeria Police to tackle insecurity and crime in the state. The presence of the state-owned Police will be felt in every nooks and crannies of Ogun State.

“I will provide stable power supply in Ogun State to boost the economy of the state as this will woo various companies to set up in Ogun State.

“I have programmes for the youths, the students, the women and the aged. I am on a rescue mission and with God’s help, I will change Ogun State for the better if I become the next governor,” he stated.

The NCP governorship candidate also promised that his administration in Ogun State in alliance with the 10-point cardinal programmes of his party will provide qualitative health care and education, good transportation system, agriculture, rural development, employment and other programmes as dividends of democracy to the people.
