Star Quest judge, Paul Play Dairo, has described the Benin leg of the Star Quest 2011 edition as the best of the regional auditions which were held in Abuja, Enugu, Benin and Lagos.

He made the assertion on the last day of the Star Quest regional auditions which took place at the National Arts Theatre, Lagos.

“The whole show has been fantastic. We have seen Nigerian youths turning out in their numbers to be part of this great music fiesta. We have been to Abuja, Enugu, Benin and finally Lagos. I would say that Benin has been the best so far. This is in terms of quality of contestants. But the other regions too had great performances. But overall, in terms of numbers and in terms of talent, the show has been great,” Paul Play said.

The views of Paul Play were also shared by KC, another Star Quest judge and member of the musical group, KC Presh, winners of the first edition of Star Quest.

“I agree with Paul Play. Benin was awesome. We had wonderful singers and those who could play instruments wonderfully from that venue. In Lagos, we have had the serious and not too serious. I have also seen a lot of rappers from Lagos. But all in all, Nigeria has an abundance of musical talent,” KC said.

Cool FM’s Freeze also a Star Quest judge said: “The Star Quest regional auditions have been great. Some of the contestants have given a good account of themselves. I believe if they continue with perfecting their good work, the sky is just a stepping stone and not the limit for them. But they should realise that the road to stardom requires hard work and dedication.”

The Lagos leg of the Star Quest regional auditions which was scheduled to end on Friday, 25 March was extended by a day. This was due to the large turn out of contestants for the audition, all hoping to become part of Nigeria’s next musical superstar band.

Of the thousands that turned up for the regional auditions, only 55 will proceed to the next phase which is the Grand Audition.

Thirty-six contestants will then make it to the final stage where contestants will be grouped into six bands comprising six individuals with musical talents.

Star Quest is a musical talent hunt organised by Nigerian Breweries Plc, manufacturers of Star lager beer.
