Land Speculator Docked

The police at Ogombo Division, Ajah, Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arraigned a notorious female land speculator before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence.

The accused, Adekanbi Moriamo, 50, , according to the police, specialises in duping members of the public by selling land with fake documents to them.

He was arrested following a complaint by Barrister Peter Donald Illogie that he was defrauded of N4.2m on the pretence of selling one acre of land at Okun Ajah.

The complainant also accused her of tricking him to part with his Mercedes Benz car with registration number CH 425 LSD, valued at N1.6m with a promise to substitute it with a plot of land at Okun Ajah.

The police alleged that the accused confessed to the crime which is punishable under Sections 516, 419 and 421 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 1994.

Count two and three read: “That you, Adekunle Moriamo on 15 March, 2006 at Okun Ajah did obtain the sum of N4.2m and Mercedes Benz C Class with registration number CH 425 LSD on the pretence of selling one acre of land and a plot of land at Okun Ajah which you knew to be false.’’

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties and adjourned the matter till 18 April, 2011.
