Scavenger Kills Colleague
A scavenger at Olusosun dumping ground has been remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons on the orders of an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria for allegedly killing his colleague.
The suspect, Ifeanyi Nnamoko, 28, of no fixed address was alleged to have used a cutlass to cut the neck of Ifeanyi Anyanwu during a fight after an argument.
Investigations revealed that an attempt by the suspect to escape was foiled by other scavengers at the dumpsite who handed him over to the police at Alausa Division.
The police alleged that the suspect admitted committing the offence.
He was arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful killing, an offence the prosecutor; Corporal Isaac Aminu, said is punishable under Section 319 on the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The charge reads: “That you, Ifeanyi Nnamoko, on 4 March, 2011, at about 6.30 p.m. at Olusosun LAWMA’s refuse dumping ground, Ojota, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill Ifeanyi Anyanwu with a cutlass and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.â€
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, but his plea was not taken and the presiding magistrate, Mr. O. Adetunji, ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody, pending an advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.
The case has been adjourned till 30 May, 2011 for trial.
