Doctors, Nurses Continue Strike In Taraba
The chairman, Joint Health Unions Negotiating Committee in Taraba, Peter Gambo has said that all the health sector unions in the state are still on strike.
Gambo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jalingo that the struggle over the implementation of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) between the unions and the state government was still on.
He said the various unions participating in the strike action included doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists, radiologists, physiotherapists and medical and health workers.
Gambo lamented that with such unions on strike for over three months, health services in the state were paralyzed both at the state headquarters and community levels.
Gambo who noted that the only functional health facility in the state, the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo was overcrowded with patients, appealed to stakeholders to intervene.
“The situation is very pathetic, the people are suffering and dying in the rural communities because of the closure of all government owned health facilities.
“If you go to FMC Jalingo, you will see how the whole place is overcrowded. I want to appeal to Stakeholders to intervene.
“The state government should also consider it a necessity to resolve this issue to avert the untold hardship the poor masses are facing in the state,†he said.
