A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdul-Wahab Alawiye-King, has called on all stakeholders in the nation’s politics to work towards ensuring peaceful conduct of the coming general elections in the country.

Alawiye-King who also urged the people to come and vote for his party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the elections, gave the advice while speaking with Political Platform.

“Various cases of pre-election violence all over the country are very disturbing and the onus lies on the political class to eschew violence and allow peace to reign so that the country can organise a free and fair election,” he said.

He blamed the various cases of violence on the attempt by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to win at all cost.

“Their supporters have been causing problems throughout the country and it is rather unfortunate that the government at the centre seems to be supporting them, using federal might to intimidate opposition.

“Or how can one describe the detention of the ACN governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State when it was the PDP supporters that attacked the ACN group?

“Look at the attack on the campaign office of the deputy governorship candidate of our party in Lagos and the level of vandalisation that took place,” Alawiye-king said.

He asked the people not to be intimidated. “Our people should not be deterred. They should come out and vote massively for the ACN. They should not be intimidated as that is the intention of the PDP in all these orchestrated cases of violence.”

The lawmaker, presently seeking election to represent Lagos Island Constituency II in the state House of Assembly, restated that the ACN is the only party that can put in place projects and programmes that will improve the standard of living of the people and enhance their welfare.
