Obasanjo Masterminded My Humiliation —Daniel

Gov. Gbenga Daniel

Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of being the brain behind his recent humiliation at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, during President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rally in the state.

Addressing journalists in Abeokuta, Daniel maintained that his party, People’s Party of Nigeria, PPN, will come out victorious in the April general elections, adding that the good work he started can only be complemented by the PPN candidate, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.

“We know those behind our humiliation at the stadium. What happened at the stadium during President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign visit to the state has been traced to their doorstep. Baba (Obasanjo) was the one behind them. He was the one who sponsored them. Some of the people have come to us and they have told us everything. We remain undaunted, posterity will judge all of us,” he stated.

Daniel also accused the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Gen. Adetunji Olurin, of betrayal.

He disclosed how he met the former Army General and sought his views on the governance of the state. “He told me then that he was not interested in contesting for the governorship of the state because he was too old. He promised to support any candidate picked from Yewa. That was our agreement. Why did he decide to run? Who gave him the mandate? Did he come back to inform me about the change of decision? We understand everything, but God will vindicate us. This state needs a young, vibrant, energetic and experienced man like Isiaka, not an old man who has been out of the system for long,” Daniel added.

The Ogun State governor also traced his misunderstanding with the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Chief Jubril Martins Kuye, to his decision to terminate a contract he gave to him for not performing.

Daniel stated: “My problem with Jubril Martins Kuye is known to everybody but only a few people know the genesis of the crisis. I gave him a road contract around somewhere in Ijebu axis of the state. This man did not finish the contract on time and we discovered that he was not ready to act fast to complete the project. It was after we gave him the contract that we also gave out the contract for the building of the new secretariat. The contract for the secretariat was completed on time but he couldn’t complete his. I called him and expressed my dismay at his lackadaisical attitude on the project, but there was no change. So, we decided to terminate the contract and gave it to other contractors who finished the construction of the road. Since then, he has been nursing grudges against me and I don’t care.”

Daniel appealed to the people to come out enmasse tomorrow and cast their votes for the candidates of the PPN, who, according to him, “are the best candidates in the state.”

He called for a credible, free and fair elections and pleaded with politicians not to allow the elections to degenerate into violence.
