Polls: Armed men arrested in Ondo State

Less than twenty 24 hours to the National Assembly elections, four men, suspected to be thugs working for the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State have been arrested with weapons at different locations in the state.

According to police sources, the first  arrest took place in  Ondo Township after  a car was intercepted. Inside were seven  new pump action guns  and bullets. The two occupants of the car were promptly arrested.

Also, another vehicle  intercepted on Isua-Idoani Road in Akoko South East Council area was also found laden with arms.

In Akure North, one man identified as Bayo Igbira, a PDP thug and former NURTW chieftain in the administration of Dr Olusegun Agagu,was also arrested. .A pump action rifle, spears, bows, arrows and other dangerous weapons were allegedly recovered from him during the arrest.

The police were yet to confirm the series of arrests.

But in his reaction, the Chairman of the State Labour Party, Dr Olaiya Oni said that it has become crystal clear that the PDP cannot win a free and fair election but rather would carry guns and other weapons to steal the peoples mandate like they did in 2007 before God arrested them.

“We have in the last couple of months been alerting the whole world of the sinister motive of the PDP to import arms and ammunitions into Ondo State and visit violence on the people and steal their mandate. This was their antics in 2007 and they are still hell bent of rigging. But we thank God that they are now being exposed and we want to commend the security operatives in the State for a job well done and for them not to relent in  their efforts but to rid the state of these vermins”, Olaiya Oni Stated.
