WAPA Builds Creche For Nursing Mothers
In a bid to provide succour for nursing mothers, the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, has commissioned a crèche at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, AOCOED, Ijanikin, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
The crèche was established to meet the demands of the National Association of Women, AOCOED chapter, to enable them keep their children in a safe environment while at work.
Governor Babatunde Fashola’s running mate in the April election, Mr. Victoria Orelope-Adefulire said the construction of the crèche within academic community was a demonstration of government’s effort in providing a conducive environment for nursing mothers to enable them pay more attention to their jobs.
Orelope-Adefulire, represented by the Permanent Secretary, WAPA, Mrs Riskat Akiode, said the crèche was named after Mrs. Adefemi Abeke Taire, former Secretary to the State Government for her motherly love and the compassion she showed towards women.
Taire commended the state government for honouring her. She advised the AOCOED community to make judicious use of the facility for the benefit of children and their mothers.
The crèche is expected to accommodate children of staff, students and others in the college community.
