The Presidential candidate of Action Alliance, Engr. Martin Onovo has described the Independent National Electoral Commissio, INEC, as a lawless government organ by excluding all Action Alliance candidates for all positions across the country in the ballot papers while conducting lawless elections.
‘’INEC apparently sees itself as above Nigerian laws and its corrupt officers act shamelessly with impunity,’’ said Onovo.
The AA flag bearer said in a statement that the exclusion is a legal ground for the nullification of elections, stressing that the action represents the summit of INEC lawlessness.
According to him, AA is a duly registered political party entitled to sponsor candidates. And that the party duly nominated many candidates for several offices on time and wondered why INEC refused to collect their forms claiming falsely that factions exist in the party.
‘’There are no factions in our party and no other set of candidates or forms,’’ he asserted.
Furthermore, AA wrote a protest to INEC chairman on 2 February, 2011 and it has not got any reply yet.
INEC Director of Public Affairs issued a press statement that ‘‘eleven parties had all their nominations which were previously rejected admitted. These include, the African Democratic Congress [ADC]… Action Alliance [AA]…Movement for Democracy and Justice [MDJ]’’.This according to him was published on ‘Saturday Sun’ of February 5. Against this backdrop, AA filed Suit No. FHC\ABJ\CS\232\11 against INEC at the Federal High Court Abuja.
‘’INEC accepted forms of these other parties and still refused to accept AA forms’’.
He further accused INEC of employing all crooked administrative tactics to delay the case unjustly.
To this end, Engr. Onovo said that the 2011 general elections are a charade and a nullity because INEC’s lawlessness since there is no court order against Action Alliance candidates.
