Account Officer Charged With Theft

An account officer with a private hospital in Ojota, Lagos, Jumoke Akinbohun, 33, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogudu, Ojota for the theft of N1.6m and forgery.

Prosecuting police officer, ASP Eyo Owai alleged that Jumoke stole N1.6m belonging to Ebun Kalejaye and forged a United Bank for Africa, UBA Ogudu branch stamp. According to the police, the defendant committed the the offences between April 2010 and February 2011when she was the account officer of the hospital.

The offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 390[6] and 467[2] of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

When the charges were read to her, she pleaded not guilty and the trial magistrate, Mrs. Aje Afunwa admitted her on bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties who must show evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State government.

The case has been adjourned till 18 April, 2011 for mention.
