Housegirl, Accomplice Steal N3.9m Jewellery

The police in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested a housemaid, Shade Adeshina, 20 and her accomplice, Kehinde Akinoba, 31 for allegedly breaking into the private safe of her boss, Baderinwa Yetunde, to steal jewellery valued at N3,909,000.

The theft occurred on 8 February, 2011 at Mag. 1141 NAF base, Ikeja, Lagos.

The accused, according to the police, broke into Yetunde’s apartment and stole N74,000, gold wrist watches, valued at N3m and 17 wrist watches each valued at N25,000. The total estimate of the theft was put at N3,909,000.

The complainant reported the theft to the police and the accused were arrested.

The accused, the police alleged, confessed to the crime during interrogation.

They were charged before the Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of house breaking and stealing, offences punishable under Sections 516, 411 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate granted them bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter.

The accused were remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons when they could not perfect the conditions attached to the bail.
