Jailbird: I Won’t Quit Crime
An unrepentant jailbird, Ahmed Agunbiade, 23, has vowed not to quit crime until he succeeds because it has become part and parcel of him and he cannot do any other business.
Ahmed made the confession at Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos where he had been convicted three times last year.
He advised his latest victim, Denis Anyanwu, to forget about the properties he lost and move on with his life, saying that God will help him to recover the items he lost to his gang.
Ahmed confessed that he started stealing six years ago when he was introduced into it by his friend, Ibrahim Olajide, but he started having problems since last year. He had been jailed three times.
Checks revealed that Ahmed was charged to court for stealing a motorcycle. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.
After serving his jail term, he was released from prison in June 2010. He was caught again breaking into a woman’s shop and carting away some goods.
He was charged to court and he also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.
Ahmed was released in December 2010. Again, he was charged to court this year for breaking into the dwelling house of Denis Anyanwu and stealing all his properties worth thousands of naira at Yinka Falomo Street, Isuti road Igando, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
He pleaded guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. B. Folami found him guilty as charged and sentenced him to eight months imprisonment with hard labour.
In a chat with P.M.NEWS Ahmed said he was a mechanic before he joined a gang of thieves and he found it difficult to leave them because he has no money to start any business.
Ahmed denied being an armed robber, saying that he did not use gun or any other dangerous weapon, he only dispossess people of their belongings without attacking them.
He also confirmed that he had been jailed three times and hoped that he will soon come back and move on with his ‘business’.
