Police Arrest Murder Suspect

The police at Ijaiye-Ojokoro Station, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria have arrested a murder suspect identified as Saheed for allegedly killing his friend, Hassan Kehinde Akinpelu, 37, a carpenter.

The Divisional Police Officer of the station, CSP Muritala Raji and his men have also launched a manhunt for his accomplice, Ope.

The deceased, P.M.NEWS gathered, was lured out by the suspects from his residence at 1, Biliaminu Street, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos.

A police source revealed that the deceased received a phone call from a friend called Ope but refused to pick it. Few minutes later, the arrested suspect, Saheed, came with a car and invited him to Oshodi for an urgent carpentry work.

He reportedly abandoned his meal and followed Saheed in his car. Three days after, he was found dead at a canal in Oke-Odo, near Abule-Egba, Lagos, with machete cuts all over his body and his tongue removed.

Narrating the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death, the deceased’s wife, Mrs. Akinpelu stated: “Two Sundays ago, around 12 noon, I was eating with my husband when Ope, his friend called but he refused to pick his phone.

“Few minutes later, Saheed, another friend came to our house in his car and invited my husband to Oshodi for an urgent carpentry work.

“He abandoned his meal, put on his T-shirt and was driven away in Saheed’s white car. Saheed lives at Orilawe Street, Ijaiye-Ojokoro.

“When it was 9 p.m. that Sunday, I called my husband and he said he was at Ile-Epo, Oke-Odo and asked if he should buy bread for us to eat. I replied that I had cooked rice.

“At 10.37 p.m. that same day when I called his number, his phone was switched off. I tried several times but all to no avail. On Monday, I started looking for him. I went to Saheed to ask about his whereabouts and he told me he dropped him at Ile Epo, Oko-Odo that Sunday and that he doesn’t know his whereabouts.

“I begged him to assist me to search for him and we left for Oke-Odo with a friend of mine. On getting there, Saheed suddenly stopped and my friend shouted: ‘look at him.’ We stopped and saw my husband’s corpse in the canal.”

Investigations revealed that Saheed’s accomplice, Ope had fled his home with his wife.
