Rep Counsels INEC On Polls
A member of the House of Representatives, Samuel Whesu Sejiro, representing Badagry Federal Constituency has described the cancellation of last Saturday’s National Assembly elections as unfortunate and an embarrassment to a country that called itself the giant of Africa.
Sejiro said the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, should have postponed the elections before the date instead of suspending it halfway.
“It is unfortunate that this is happening. This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that an election will commence but stopped halfway. It is very unfortunate.
“INEC knows that there are many flaws, lots of errors and still it allowed the elections to go on and later came back to stop it when it was halfway. This is a bad development.
“There were many complaints during the elections; the accreditation started late; many names were missing from the voters’ register; some parties could not find their names and logos on the ballot papers and the man assured us a day before the elections that everything was ready and the elections will go on only for him to stop it. Something is wrong somewhere,†he stated.
Sejiro advised INEC to ensure that earlier mistakes made that led to the cancellation of last Saturday’s election are corrected, so that the nation will not be disgraced again on Saturday.
