Brig.-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga, the NYSC Director-General, has vowed to take all legal steps against a traditional ruler in Osun, who was alleged to have raped a female corps member.

Answering questions from newsmen in Katsina on Thursday, Tsiga said: “The NYSC management will take all necessary legal steps to bring to book the Olowa of Ilowa in Osun, who allegedly raped our corps member (name withheld) on March 25.”

He expressed regret that the royal father, who was expected to protect corps members in his domain and to play the role of a parent, approached and allegedly raped the 23-year old corps member.

According to Tsiga, the female corps member, who is serving in Idoka, Obokun Local Government Area of the state, was invited by the traditional ruler to start a computer appreciation lesson in his community, only to lure her into the dastardly act.

He, however, said the NYSC management had taken the case to a magistrate’s court in Osogbo and would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.

The director-general, who restated the NYSC management’s commitment to the protection of corps members at all times, said that “as parents, we will not hesitate to deal with anybody, however highly placed, who attempts to spoil our children”.

He, therefore, appealed to community leaders nationwide to embrace corps members as their own children and ensure their protection.

Nevertheless, Tsiga charged corps members, especially females, not to allow themselves to be carried away and to always give priority to their personal security.
