School Sports: Yellow House Rule Tee-Tops Sports Day


Yellow Eagle House have emerged winners of the 5th edition of the Biennial Inter-House sports competition of Tee-Tops Schools.

The event was held at the sports centre of the University of Lagos, where Yellow House was rewarded with a giant trophy.

To emerge winners, the house won a total of 12 Gold, 7 Silver and 8 Bonze medals. The second position went to Green Robin House, that won 23 medals, Blue Kestrel House placed 3rd with 18 medals while Red Pleasant House finished in the last position with 17Medals.

Speaking at the end of the competition, Chairman of the day, Oresanya, a property manager said, “First of all, the event was very vital as education is not all about reading alone. But, we should remember that sports competition is all about mental exertion, physical and spiritual development.” To the parents, he said: “Gone are the days when sport is seen and perceived as a thing for dropouts, exclusive for never do wells in schools.”

The event, according to the organisers was also designed to discover hidden talents in the children, and to also give other pupils the educational advantage and introduce them to sports.

In his submission on behalf of the chief host, Prof. J.B. Obebe, the spokesman Babatunde Soile said Inter-House sports competition of this magnitude affords the entire participants, parents and guardians a veritable ground for good relationship as he advised the government and other stakeholders to be involved in school sports.

The Assistant Head Teacher, Clement Anwinam, who doubles as Chairman, Sports Committee said “we are grateful to God almighty for making the event a great success. We thank the management of the school, Board of Trustees, Dr. Akin Ogunlawe for their moral and financial support. I will also say a big thank you to Chief Mrs. Mary Mafe the Head Teacher of Tee-Tops School, Magodo.”

The Sports Master Timothy Amao said: “The dividends of sports in general can never be overemphasised, as it keeps the body, soul and spirit in good, physical shape and of course it enhances friendliness and good neighbourliness”.
