Gov. Bukola Saraki of Kwara State

Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State was yesterday declared the winner of the Kwara Central Senatorial seat in the National Assembly.

Saraki defeated the candidates of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN)- a party being sponsored by his father, Dr. Olusola Saraki by a wide margin.

The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, had a better showing in the election than the Saraki-sponsored ACPN.

Announcing the result of the Kwara Central election at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters in Ilorin, the Returning Officer for the district, Dr. Stephen B. Olajide said that PDP polled a total of 78,799 voted to beat candidates of other parties in the election.

He said the ACN candidate, Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe scored 53,058, while Alhaja Rukayat Issah of ACPN polled only 32,494 to emerge second and third respectively.

According to Olajide the candidate of CPC Princess Bilikis Gambari polled 5,928 votes, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Mr. Eleja Taiwo scored 726 votes while the Democratic Peoples Party candidate (DPP), Alhaji Tunde Mohammed scored 1809.

In all, Dr Olajide said that there was a total of 175,052 valid votes, while 10,787 votes were voided in the zone.
