Benue Election Not Cancelled -REC

The Benue State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Nasir Ayilara said the cancellation of some results in some polling units in Benue State will not affect the overall results released by INEC.

 

He debunked allegation of cancellation of results from last Saturday’s National Assembly election in the state.

 

Ayilara who was answering questions from newsmen in his office in Makurdi this afternoon, after releasing the overall result of last National Assembly elections for Benue State, disclosed that out the nine federal constituencies contested for, the six PDP candidates emerged victorious in the following constituencies: Hassan Saleh- Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu, Engr Adamu Entono- Agatu/Apa, Hon Emmanuel Jime -Guma/Makurdi, Okwu Samson -Obi/Oju, Ezekiel Adaji -Ohimini/Otukpo, and Iorwase Herman Hembe -Konshisha/Vandeikya.

 

The remaining three seats went to ACN candidates. They are: Hon Orker Jev of Buruku Federal Constituency, John Dyegh of Gboko /Tarka and Benjamin Aboho of Kwande/ Ushongo.

 

He maintained that the cancellation of few results by electoral officers at the polling units cannot affect the overall results, adding that such can only be contested by an aggrieved party/ parties at the election tribunal.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Michael Enokela said Isaac Gbar, suspected to be a PDP thug is now in police net in connection with the death of Aondongu Abulu of ACN.

 

According to him, the incident occurred at Tondo polling unit in Ukum LGA when he and others attacked and viciously battered the victim.

 

He was rushed to Life Clinic by Hon Matthias Myseneyaa where he died.

 

The Police Spokesman added that two other suspects now at large, Hon Asulupa and Chief Dura Garoga have been declared wanted in connection with the death of Abulu.

 

On the election, he said the exercise was peaceful throughout the state.
