Factional RTEAN Members Appeal To Police

A faction of the Lagos State Chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, has appealed to the Inspector General of police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, AIG Zone 2, Command, Onikan, Lagos and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State to expedite action to enforce the court ruling of 2005 which allegedly vested the leadership of the association on the Samuel Ketufu faction.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS on behalf of others through a fresh petition to the IGP, a copy which was made available to P.M.NEWS, the factional secretary, Mr. Olawale Oyelade who claimed that they are the authentic members of RTEAN, Lagos State chapter led by Comrade Samuel Ketuki, said they had in suit LD158/99 secured an injunction in 2005 against the Chief Olorode Adefowope faction restraining them from parading themselves, taking action with regard to the association but that up till this moment, the court order has been flagrantly disobeyed by the faction even though various attempts had been made by the men of the Nigeria Police at Festac Police Division on 15 July, 2005 and the State CID, Panti, Yaba, on September 2005 to reclaim the ten RTEAN motor parks, all to no avail.

“We still believe that nobody is above the law, that is why we are calling on the new IGP to direct his men to enforce the court order to reclaim our motor parks for us,” he stated in the petition.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS at their Agboju RTEAN State Secretariat on behalf of the State Chairman, Chief Olonode Adefowope, State Secretary Mr. Seyi Bamgbose, said there is no factionalisation in RTEAN in Lagos and Nigeria in general.

“We are the authentic RTEAN members operating with the original certificate of registration of trade unions under the trade unions act, Cap 437 of 1990 issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Those parading themselves as members of RTEAN, Lagos State Chapter are fake as they have been arrested several times by the security operatives and warned to desist from parading themselves as RTEAN members.

“We held an election in February 2011 and the incumbent executives emerged winners at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel & Towers.

“Those parading themselves as RTEAN members with fake injunction are touts sacked from the union,” he said.
