The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that the stalemated Anambra Central Senatorial election will be conducted again to decide a clear winner.

Former governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige and former Information Minister, Dr. Dora Akunyili are locked in a gritty battle over who actually won last Saturday’s parliamentary election.

While Akunyili contested on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Ngige is flying the banner of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. No date has been announced for the rerun.

The controversy surrounding the outcome of the election led to the resignation of the INEC Returning Officer for the Anambra Central Senatorial District election, Mr. Alex Anene.
