As part of preparation for the forthcoming All Africa Junior Squash Championship slated for 25-31, Johannesburg, South Africa, invited athletes will start camping today at the Alake Sports Centre Abeokuta, Ogun State, Southwest, Nigeria.
Olufemi Ajagbe, National President of Nigeria Squash Rackets Federation, disclosed to P.M.Sports that nine players have been invited for the championship. He said early preparation will help the athletes to excel in South Africa.
“We are not going to South Africa to make number but to win the tournament. When we participated in All Africa Senior Squash Championship in South Africa in February, we were third on the table while the host emerged the winner,†said Ajagbe, who boasted that Nigeria will defeat South Africa when both countries clash.
The federation president expressed gratitude to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Senator Bala Mohammed for sponsoring the team to South Africa. Ajagbe said without Mohammed, the trip may not have been possible.
“The minister sponsored us to South Africa because of the success of the David Mark National Open Tournament we organised recently in Abuja. I think we need to justify his kind gesture by winning the tournament in South Africa,†he said.
