Assistant coach of Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles, Ben Iroha has heaped praises on the team for moving a step closer to the football event of London 2012 Olympics.
The team piped Equatorial Guinea 4-1 in the second leg of the qualifying series in Malabo last weekend.
The U-23 Eagles, led by Austin Eguavoen, defeated E/Guinea 5-0 in the first leg and completed the routing in Malabo, cruising to the second round of the African qualifying series for the 2012 Olympics on a 9-1 aggregate.
A hat trick from Warri Wolves’ Ekigo Ehiosun and a goal from Daniel Uchechi were all the team needed to scale through, and Iroha believes the players did a good job.
The ex-international in a chat with PMSports praised the resilience of the players, saying they didn’t allow the outcome of the first leg at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin to get into their heads.
According to him “The boys played to instruction, and they were focused during the duration of the match, they are true ambassadors of Nigeriaâ€.
