The Lagos State Police Command on Monday paraded a 20-year-old woman for being in possession of three AK-47 rifles.

Mr. Samuel Jinadu, the spokesman of the command, who also paraded six other suspects, said they belonged to two robbery gangs operating in Lagos and its environs.

He said the woman belonged to a five-man robbery syndicate operating in different parts of the country.

The spokesman said that she was arrested at Mile 2 while attempting to take the guns to Koko in Delta.

Jinadu said a motorcyclist, who brought her to the Mile 2 Motor Park, told drivers at the park that he was suspicious of the content of the woman’s bag.

“When the drivers searched the big bag, they discovered the three guns and ammunition. Under interrogation, she claimed that her boyfriend, now at large, gave them to her to transport to Delta.

“She said that he was waiting to collect them in Koko. She was handed over to the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, for further investigations.

“Through her confession, three others were arrested,” he said.

He also said that three of the six other suspects belonged to a gang which specialised in stealing vehicles at car parks, including worship centres in Lagos.

The spokesman said they were arrested while attempting to sell a stolen car at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the guns and the ammunition as well as the stolen car  marked DQ 525 GGE were also displayed before journalists.
