Ex-Skye Bank Worker Arrested Over Fraud

Operatives at the Special Fraud Unit, Millerton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have arrested a former employee of Skye Bank, Mr. Taofeek Adetayo Adeshina, for allegedly stealing from the office cabinet of the bank, keys to four ATM machines located at Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Real Oil, Isolo, Ultimate, Ijesha and Tandoko, Bariga, all valued at N250,000 and attempting to steal N1million from the ATM at Yaba.

He was, therefore, arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate Court on a three-count charge of stealing and fraud.

The police alleged that the suspect who resides at No.14 Bamidele Oduntan Street, Akute, Ogun State, on 26 January, 2011, attempted to steal N1million from the ATM machines located at Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, the offences, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Nwosu George, are contrary to and punishable under Section 390(6) 4 and 108(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 28, LFM 2004.

Counts 2 and 3 read: “That you, Taofeek Adetayo Adeshina, at about 6.15am on the 26 January, 2011 did attempt to steal N1million from the ATM machine located at Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, after you falsely presented yourself as still being in the employment of Skye Bank Plc, knowing fully well that you had resigned from the bank’s employment way back in December, 2010.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the court president, Magistrate A. M. Alli Balogun, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two surety in like sum.

The magistrate also directed that the sureties must produce bank statement, evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government, National Identity Card and must be gainfully employed. He adjourned the case to 27 April, 2011.
