Lagos Youths Set For Unity Congress

All is now set for the unity congress of the Lagos State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the congress, postponed twice, will now hold on Tuesday, 19 April, 2011.

A statement signed by the chairman of the congress planning committee, Mustapha Abiodun Onafuye, stated that the committee will conduct a free, fair and credible election to usher in new officers to steer the affairs of youths in Lagos State.

Screening of aspirants for various positions is slated for Friday at the Adventist Church, Maryland, Lagos and all eligible aspirants have been directed to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the congress.

The committee also dissociated itself from a report that Lagos youths had endorsed Jonathan for president in Saturday’s election.

“The Congress Planning Committee wishes to state categorically that the organisation which declared support for Jonathan was not among the 54 registered voluntary youth organizations in Lagos State and cannot represent the interest of Lagos youths. None of the listed organsiations is affiliated with the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter. Based on this premise, we did not at any time attended any meeting where such a decision was taken,” it stated.
