Olympic Qualifier Draw Latest: U-23 Eagles To Play Tanzania

The draw for the 2nd round of the men’s qualifiers for the 2012 Olympic football event, held in Egypt early today, would see Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles taking on Tanzania in the next round of qualifying series.

The draw was conducted by acting CAF Secretary General Hicham El Amrani, and attended by representatives of the countries in the competition.

The second round of the qualifiers would hold between 3-5 June 2011 for the first-leg matches, while the return-leg matches are slated for between 17-19 June 2011.

CAF disclosed that the 16th qualified teams will only be known on 20 April 2011, as FIFA has postponed the return leg match between Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire to the same date to allow the Ivorian team leave their territory to play the match.

The next and final stage, according to CAF will see the introduction of a new qualifying system that is to be further communicated.

“But three teams are going through to represent CAF at the London 2012 Olympics with a fourth African team going to meet a team from Asia in a play-off match to be held on 12 April, 2012 in London,” CAF said.
