Re-elected Senator, Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, GOS, has said that his next four years in office will be devoted to rendering better services and giving more dividends of democracy to the people of his constituency and Lagos State as a whole.
The federal legislator, representing Lagos West, the largest Senatorial District in Nigeria, maintained that his victory could not have been possible without the overwhelming supportsof his party leaders and the good people of his Lagos West Senatorial District.
GOS said that with his re-election, the people should expect nothing short of better days ahead as he would live no stone unturned in ensuring the fulfilment of his campaign promises to the people.
“I’m using this medium to thank the people for once again demonstrating their relentless love and trust for me and for reposing their confidence in me. I strongly believe that my victory could not have been possible without God and the supports given to me by the people,†he said.
The senator was re-elected last Saturday having been returned unopposed at the party’s primaries. His strongest point is his popularity at the grassroots.
The Mushin-based politician did not come about this by accident. His father, Alhaji Rafiu Ishola Solomon, was secretary to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo-led Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN.
GOS was the only Senator in Lagos Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, whose position was not in contention among the serving senators in the state.
The University of Lagos, UNILAG, graduate of BSc in Political Science started his journey with an election into the Lagos State House of Assembly on the platform of Democratic Party of Nigeria, DPN and won with a landslide.
But that era was shortlived as a result of military incursion into politics. In 1999, when the nation returned to democratic rule, he aligned with the progressives in the Alliance for Democracy, AD, contested and won as chairman of the old Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
He, however, did not seek re-election at the expiration of his constitutional first term. Instead, he took a shot at the House of Represenatives where he served for another four years, representing the people of Mushin Federal Constituency 01.
After four years at the lower chambers of the National Assembly, GOS, as he is fondly called by his admirers, moved to the upper chamber as Senator.
He is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Capital Market, where he has continued to display rare understanding of that sector of the economy. He is also a very influential member of the Senate Committee on Sports.
