Salvador Cries Blue Murder

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, has criticised the conduct of Saturday’s National Assembly elections in Lagos West Senatorial District, calling for the cancellation of the poll in the area.

The result of the election released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, showed the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, was victorious in all the 10 local governments that made up the Senatorial districts.

Speaking at a press conference held at Games Village, Surulere, the party’s Lagos West Senatorial District candidate, Moshood Adejoke Salvador, who was defeated by Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, GOS, wants the election cancelled over what he termed rigging by the ruling ACN in connivance with the INEC officials.

He said: “I want to categorically inform the INEC that the result declared in Lagos West Senatorial District is not satisfactory due to the use of hoodlums to distrupt some polling booths in the area as well as the incompetence of INEC officials who collected money and announced wrong results.

He also accused ACN members in Mushin Local Government of throwing money around and intimidating voters at polling centres.

“They were using money, intimidation and buying over as many people as possible. They did all these openly. This is not good enough for our nascent democracy. People should not be denied the opportunity to express their wish and that was what happened in those places.

“The intimidation and manipulation was extended to the riverine areas and ballot stuffing was the order of the day. All our agents were not allowed into the collation centres and I’m telling you categorically that all the figures declared by INEC were not the wishes of the masses,” Salvador averred.

He said he will not hesistate to seek redress in the court of law, adding that very soon the mandate will be given to the rightful owner.

“I call on INEC to annul the elections across Lagos West Senatorial District and Mushin based on the fact that by calculation the PDP won but the results were manipulated.
