Shekarau who is also Kano state Governor said this in Gingiyu Ward, Nasarawa, Kano, North-West Nigeria, shortly after casting his vote, adding that he was impressed with the large turn-out of people. The presidential candidate who was cheered and hailed by his supporters when he arrived the polling unit where he cast his vote, urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and vote according to their conscience.“I am impressed with the turn-out of voters today. From the reports I have recorded across the state, the people have been law-abiding and there is no report of any problem. I will accept the result of the election as long as the process is free and fair. The winner and losers should take the result as it is,” Shekarau said.

P.M.NEWS reports that Nigerians across the ancient commercial city turned out en masse to vote for the candidates of their choice. There was also huge security presence across the state, including the Army, Air Force, Civil Defence, Mobile Police men, State Security Service, SSS, and other security agents in plain clothes.

However, P.M.NEWS noticed that some of the voters seen at different polling units across the state are not up the mandatory 18 years of age.For instance, at a polling unit in Fagge Ward B, a young girl whose appearance does not depict that she was up to 18 was seen being accredited for voting. There was, however, a mild drama at a polling unit in Gwagwarwa Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area where an old woman, Hajara Dauda, 76, refused to leave the polling unit after casting her vote.Hajara said it is her right to ensure that her vote counts, “I will remain here until they finish voting and count my vote. Experience has taught me a lot and I am not ready to let what has happened in the past years repeat itself again,” Hajara said.Though she is old, Hajara even refused a seat offered to her by one of the security agents, as she stood by the side of the polling booth, insisting that she would wait until the whole process would come to an end. When P.M.NEWS tried to find out who she voted for, Hajara said, “how do you expect me to tell you who I have voted for? It is my private business. I have voted for a candidate of my choice and I want to live to see him emerge the winner.”
