Heavy Traffic Jams INEC’s Website

The website of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, www.inecnigheria.org has been attracting enormous traffic, with visitors reaching close to nine million as at 8.30 a.m today.

 

The visitors are trooping to INEC’s Results Dashboard, a page on the site, where the results of last Saturday’s Presidential election are on display for possible download.

 

As at this morning, results from 29 states, including the Federal Capital Territory at Abuja have been published, with President Goodluck Jonathan leading with a huge gap, over his rival, Muhammadu Buhari of the CPC.

 

INEC is also enjoying quite a sizeable followership on the social media network, Twitter, where it has 11,196 followers and posts state results as they arrived Abuja INEC office.

It was not clear whether the huge internet followers of INEC are from Nigeria.

 

There are 43 million internet users in Nigeria, the largest on the African continent.

 

There are an estimated 1.8 million Nigerians on Facebook, the most notable presence being President Goodluck Jonathan. He has about half a million Nigerians following him.
