Rioters Burn Sambo, Na’Abba’s Houses
Rioters have reportedly burnt the home of the Vice President, Namadi Sambo and that of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba in Kaduna State.
The Kaduna State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has also been set ablaze by the rioters who are said to be protesting over the outcome of last Saturday’s presidential election won by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The rioters are said to be attacking those who voted for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan, a southerner, rather than the other three norther candidates, CPC’s Muhammadu Buhari, ANPP’s Ibrahim Shekarau and ACN’s Nuhu Ribadu.
The irate northern youths also threatened some emirs who were perceived to have supported Jonathan to win the election.
Apart from the violence in Kaduna, norther states such as Sokoto, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano also erupted in violence in the wake of the announcement of the presidential election result.
The irate mob reportedly burnt churches and mosques during the violent protest that has continued to spread.
There was also a bomb scare in Wuse area of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. A woman was said to have raised the alarm which caused a serious stampede but it turned out to be a hoax.
Also, residents of satellite towns like Mararaba, Nyanya and Zuba in Abuja hurriedly close their shops today over fears that they could be attacked by mobs.
The army and police, however, warned trouble makers to maintain the peace or face the wrath of law enforcement agencies.
