Apprentice Decamps With Master's N1.4m

A 19-year-old apprentice was on Monday charged before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly decamping with his master’s N1.4 million.

Standing trial over a charge of stealing, the accused, Chimezie Egbusibe, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Essien, however, insisted the accused committed the offence on Dec. 9, 2010 at 3, Taike St., Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos.

He said the accused was brought from his country home to work for his master, Ifeanyi Oyeaghasiri, a trader, and stole the money in his master’s house.

Essien urged the court to consider the bail conditions to be granted the accused since he had relocated from Lagos.

He said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Magistrate M.O. Olajuwon granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties, who should be relations of the accused, should also be resident in Lagos with proof of tax payment in Lagos State.

The case has been adjourned till May 23 for trial.
