The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, yesterday, approved the N13,000 relativity pay agreed with the workers.
The governor stated that the new pay will take effect from 1 May 2011, according to a statement by Mr. Mojeed Jamiu, his Spedical Adviser on Media.
While approving the agreement in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the governor noted that the development was in fulfillment of a promise made to the people of the state, especially workers when he was inaugurated on 16 October 2010 as governor.
He also pledged to be workers’ friendly and will allow due process to drive discipline and merit to guide promotion and reward.
“Our government has undoubtedly restored the hitherto elusive dignity of labour, “ Fayemi said.
Fayemi listed the achievement of his administration to include considerable reduction in school fees paid by university students.
“Our workers have just been granted their promotion which had been due since January 2010. Just last week, a total of 2,200 primary school teachers were promoted.
“We have also liquidated a huge sum of N700 million pending to our retired workers, as well as the restoration of the car and housing loans cancelled by the previous adminstration in the state. Our workers could now be proud owners of serviceable personal cars and houses,†Fayemi said.
The governor disclosed that in the past few weeks, the administration has reviewed upward the salary and emoluments of the health workers and justice sector workers.
“Within the limits of our lean resources, we have consistently met all the statutory obligations to workers as at when due.
“We know our civil servants who suffered various indignities in the last three years deserve a good deal from this administration, hence, no stone will be left unturned towards ensuring that we keep our promises to better the livelihood of our workers,†Fayemi said.
